2012 Real Estate Market Heads Up

by suzanne on January 24, 2012

2012 Housing MarketHeads-up buyers! I’m seeing a shift in the market, evidenced by both my experience and this report from the Massachusetts Association of Realtors, showing that the number of single-family homes put under agreement in November rose for the seventh month in a row compared to the same time in 2010. Condominium pending sales are also up from the same time last year.

I have been working with a buyer for the past few months and last week he contacted me to view four listings he has been watching, and three of the four were already under agreement! I had a hunch that these amazing values wouldn’t be available much longer. As a matter of fact, I just helped buyers in Concord get an amazing value on a house within walking distance to the center. There are still great deals out there, just don’t wait too long. We shall see what 2012 brings but I think we will see a more stable market. Local Restaurant Review: 80 Thoreau

I love to cook, so when I get the opportunity to enjoy a kid-free meal out I want to eat something I don’t cook at home or that will inspire me to try to recreate. And when I think of fine dining, I usually assume we have to head into the city, fight traffic and pay for parking. Then I heard about 80 Thoreau in Concord.

We went on the Wednesday after Christmas, when most people were huddled inside relaxing and recouping from the holiday rush, and were surprised to find it was packed. And no wonder — the atmosphere and service were phenomenal and wait til I tell you about the food!

My husband started with the squid salad and I had the mushroom consommé, a special that evening.  The mushroom consommé was amazing —it had a smooth and buttery celery root and parmesan puree with chives in the middle which was the perfect accompaniment to the trumpet mushroom.  For an entrée, I had the duck, which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the sunchoke confit and quince accompaniment was too good to describe.  My husband had the tuna, which unfortunately I couldn’t try because I am pregnant.  However, he absolutely loved his meal and would highly recommend it.

In the end, 80 Thoreau is a long overdue addition to the suburbs.  It’s so nice to not have to automatically think “city” when you want a memorable restaurant experience.  Now I just need to head back after the baby to try one of their signature cocktails.  I’ve heard their gin with in-house-made tonic is not to be missed!
